West Indies Women and South Africa Women played a thrilling game at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Sunday (September 19) as the hosts won in a Super Over. Both the teams forced the game into a Super Over with 192 equal scores by the end of the game and West Indies dropped the required runs to end the series with a win.

Despite not losing a wicket, the visitors could manage only six runs in the Super Over as Deandra Dottin worked her side with the ball. However, Dottin's joy did not last long as she was run out on the first ball of West Indies' chase. Another wicket there would have given South Africa a resounding 5-0 win. But Chadian Nation and Hayley Matthews kept the peace to secure victory.

If not for a spectacular comeback with the ball from the home side, this game would not have come anywhere close to a tie in first place. Chasing a target of 193 runs, South Africa were making a century partnership for the first wicket. In-form opener Lizelle Lee hit another half-century and Tazmin Brits played their third ODI to provide enough support from the other end. However, Kiana Joseph gave her side a sniff in the successive openers, dismissing Lee for 61 and Lara Goodall for a duck.

The hosts took advantage of the opportunity with both hands by securing further breakthroughs that were blocking South Africa's progress. Shanetta Grimond removed the Brits and captain Dane van Niekerk, causing a stir in the dressing room. Only Mignon du Preez lasted long till the end and the other batsmen failed to provide support. Grimond hit two more boundaries and du Preez was run out on the last ball of the innings when the visitors needed just one run to win.

Earlier in the day, West Indies batted with the bat to post a modest total of 192/5 on the board. Raines Boyce, Nation and Dotin caught the deliveries but never managed to advance and put pressure on opener Rashda Williams. She joined forces with Mathews to revive the innings, but the pair took longer than they would have ideally wished for a 97-run partnership. Struggling to consolidate the momentum, Williams and Matthews took 149 balls for their partnership, which meant a lot needed to be done in the final four overs. West Indies never really found inspiration as Williams ran her bat throughout the innings to remain unbeaten on 78 off 138 balls.

Brief scores: West Indies Women's 192/5 in 50 overs (Rashda Williams 78, Hayley Matthews 48; Nadine de Klerk 3-33) 192/7 in 50 overs with South Africa Women's (Lizelle Lee 61, Tazmin Brits 48; Shenetta Grimond) 4-33, Kiana Joseph 2-29) - West Indies won the Super Over
